Tanya is a Clinical Play Therapist with a Masters in Child Play Therapy and an Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies. She brings over 25 years’ experience in the field of early childhood to her practice, as a Kindergarten teacher, supporting parents in their parenting skills and working in partnership with families in the development of NDIS plans as an Early Childhood Early Intervention Practitioner. Tanya also brings her own experience as a parent of young children to her work.
Tanya’s approach is underpinned by theories of child development, trauma and attachment theory. She uses playful therapeutic experiences to build a relationship based on trust, acceptance and curiosity. She is passionate about using the power of play as a vehicle of change, to ensure every child can reach their full potential.
Tanya values working collaboratively with families and other systems that surround the child, empowering adults within the child’s life, by supporting them to better understand their child’s needs and foster greater connection.
With a background in early years education, Tanya has experience in working with children presenting with developmental and complex trauma, attachment disruption, anxiety, bereavement, family life disruption/adjustments and family dynamics together with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD, ADHD and learning disabilities. These are all areas that play therapy can support children and families with.
Passionate about upholding the rights of children, Tanya strives to create a safe therapeutic space where children are able to process, heal, and develop at their own pace and in their own way.
Tanya is a Registered Play Therapist with Australasian Pacific Play Therapy Association (APPTA) and is trained in Humanistic Play therapy, Learn to Play therapy and Filial Family therapy.
