Max and Molly – Therapy Dogs
Max and Molly are working with Psychologist Naomi Adams at Bellarine Peninsula Psychology, providing Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT).
Max and Molly are brother and sister. They are Naomi’s 13 year old border collie companion animals (pets) and also trained Therapy Dogs.
Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is different from Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) such as dog visiting programsAnimal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a goal directed intervention where animals are an integral component of therapy, facilitated by a mental health professional. Therapy Dogs can assist with:
- Engagement and rapport building
- Stress management
- Mindfulness and grounding
- Emotional regulation
- Improving mood
- Social skill development
- Communication skills
- Improving self confidence
Therapy dogs working with counsellors in professional settings are a team, who have passed stringent temperament and training standards.
So, Max and Molly are Naomi’s furry ‘co-therapists’!
