Psychological Therapy for Children & Teenagers
Growing up isn’t always easy. Children and teenagers face challenges at home, school, with friends, and within themselves, and sometimes they need extra support.
At Bellarine Psychology, we work with young people from early childhood through to late adolescence. With our neuroaffirming, trauma-informed approach, we tailor support to the individual young person, keeping families and carers closely involved.
What we can do?
How can therapy help children and teenagers?
Some of the most common issues we see among children and teenagers include:
Supporting these issues early can make all the difference later in life.
How we do it
Our therapy services for children & teenagers
We adapt our approach to suit each young person’s needs, personality and stage of development. Here are just some of the approaches we use at Bellarine Psychology.
Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Helps children and teenagers manage anxiety, low mood, and difficult emotions by shifting unhelpful thought patterns (CBT) and/or learning to respond to them differently (ACT).
Trauma-informed therapy
Gentle support for young people who have experienced trauma, using approaches such as trauma-focused CBT and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
Play and expressive therapy
For younger children especially, therapy doesn’t always look like talking. We use play, creative activities and movement to help children process and communicate what they’re experiencing.
Neuroaffirming therapy and assessment
Support that recognises and respects neurodivergence. We work with a young person’s strengths and differences, not against them.
Family and parent sessions
Involves parents and carers directly in the therapy process through joint sessions, parent consultations, and strategies to support your child at home.
School & care team support
Liaising with teachers, school support staff and other professionals involved in your child’s care to support a consistent approach across home, school and therapy.
Group therapy
Structured programs where young people meet peers facing similar challenges and connect through shared experience.
